Hi all touchy subject here Youth sports thrive on parent-coaches. One estimate finds that parents of players make up 90% of all youth sport coaches (1). Parents have a unique relationship with their own children, and when it comes to coaching your child’s team, it is not easy to separate being the parent from being the coach? or is it?
my observations are predictable 85% of above CANT separate the role from rewarding there offspring or playing them in a position surrounded with support to enhance there effectiveness in the sport to the disadvantages of others,

I am not saying Coaches kids aren't talented but a consistent opinion would be there are many advantages, that may not be available to the rest of the team! ie playing them where they want, ice time, MoM ,conference ,selections, roles, self promotion, the list goes on.

here in the UK many clubs have the situation of my "DADS" the coach,Ice Hockey UK should be policing this in my opinion to prevent a parent coaching his own kids age level,as i belief in canada this is the case?

its bad enough having Dads coaching at club level but we are now in a position where there are several father son /daughter combinations coaching at conference level i smell a rat is the lack of volunteers that bad we are kidding ourself on as a nation yes the selected few will in general progress beyond the average kid but ask yourself would this happen if DAD was sitting in the stands ????

I'm looking for any biographical info/contact details in respect of two former GB international goaltenders of the early 1950s - Bill Alderson (of Harringay) and Harold Smith (of Streatham.)

Any information greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To Ann Whitehouse

Would you please confirm birth place for Paul Whitehouse? Is it Whitley Bay or Newcastle?
Thanks.
Martin C. Harris » 10:10am 01-25-2012
The message just sent should have been address to Stuart, although of course it also relates to Brad, but I assume that Stuart lives in the UK and therefore is closure to Earl's certificate.

To Brad Carlson

From the time your grandfather Earl was elected to the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame we have seeking a relative to whom we can present his Hall of fame citation certificate. As I assume you live in the UK you may not be too far from where his certificate is currently held.

If you would be kind enough to contact me we can hopefully make the necessary arrangements for you, or your grandmother if she is still with us, to be presented with Earl's certificate.

Martin
